What is CoolSculpting? CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat removal procedure. Similar to other non-invasive fat removal procedures, like using laser therapy, radiofrequency, or ultrasound to reduce fat, CoolSculpting is one of the most popular options. While CoolSculpting is a trademarked term, it’s also commonly known as cold (cryoablation).

WHAT IS CRYOLIPOLYSIS AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THAN COOLSCULPTING?

It’s not! CoolSculpting is the trade name for cryolipolysis, which is a treatment that uses cold temperatures to destroy fat cells while avoiding frostbite to the overlying skin. Cryolipolysis is a nonsurgical technique for localized fat reduction. With the increased risk of complications from more invasive methods such as liposuction, cryolipolysis presents a promising method for nonsurgical body contouring. This study presents a systematic review of the available clinical data, with an emphasis on the efficacy, methods, safety, and complications of cryolipolysis.

HOW DOES COOLSCULPTING WORK?

The method involves the controlled application of cooling within the temperature range of -11 to +5 °C for the non-invasive, localized reduction of fat deposits, intending to reshape the contours of the body. The degree of exposure to cooling causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue, without apparent damage to the overlying skin. It appears primarily applicable to limited discrete fat bulges.

IS COOLSCULPTING SAFE?

Cryolipolysis is a promising procedure for non-surgical fat reduction and body contouring and presents a compelling alternative to liposuction and other, more invasive methods. This procedure appears to be safe in the short term, with a limited side effect profile and results in significant fat reduction when used for localized adiposities. It remains unclear whether posttreatment manual massage and multiple treatments in the same anatomic area enhance the efficacy of cryolipolysis.

CoolSculpting is FDA-Cleared, safe, non-surgical, and effective.

The procedure originally received FDA clearance for treating fat on the stomach, hips, and thighs and utilized a relatively large applicator. As smaller applicators were developed, cryolipolysis was subsequently cleared for use on double chins, underarms, and fat around the bra line.

Can you do Coolsculptin on your face?

CoolSculpting on the face can be a little pricy. However, chin treatment has been known to reduce 45% of facial fat in a few weeks. Despite the fact that the jawline is a little bit of your body, a fat decrease around there can radically change your appearance. Nobody preferences having a twofold jawline or sagging cheeks that cause them to seem more seasoned. With CoolSculpting, you have a successful fat decrease alternative that is helpful, reasonable, and non-intrusive.

CoolSculpting jaw treatment can also help with cheeks and facial structure.

Is there any pain or discomfort with Coolsculpting?

While some patients have mentioned slight pain and discomfort this is relative and experiences will vary, CoolSculpting typically involves minimal discomfort if any. During the procedure, you may feel a mild tingling, throbbing, or pinching sensation. Any such feelings will be short-lived — once the applicator reaches the temperature required to freeze fat cells, the treated area will be numbed.

What are the potential side effects?

CoolSculpting or Cryolipolysis targets the skin and tissue around the fat pocketed areas and could face some negative effects. Most patients report some redness, tenderness, numbing, tingling, and bruising.

Potential complications include scarring, severe or prolonged pain, abrupt changes to skin and fat layers, Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), and skin ulcerations.

Most of these side effects are temporary and go away within a day after treatment. The scariest of these risks is PAH, which causes a gradual enlargement of the treated body area. It’s not life-threatening but scary in that it totally negates the reason for having Cryolipolysis in the first place.

How do I know if Cryolipolysis is right for me?

You are a good candidate if any of the following body issues make you self-conscious:

  • Love handles
  • Inner and outer thigh fat
  • Muffin tops
  • Belly and bra fat
  • Saddlebags
  • Upper arm fat
  • Double chin
